There are now over a million words in English even though we never use most of them. The fact is, most of our words are used in specific fields. Ask the man on the street to look at your coccyx and you might end up with a fat lip. Ask a doctor the same question and you are likely to get a very different reaction. So using these terms or the situations in which they are used with students may become a real challenge.
Over the past two years, about half of my teaching experience has involved training teachers to go to African nations to help improve the quality of the schools there. It has been an eye-opening and enlightening experience for many reasons, and during this time, my students and I have been faced with exactly the situation described above; a specific situation in which they will be expected to use very particular language. In this section I have collected a variety of materials I have utilized over the course of those two years. Click the button below to see the “Technical” section of My English Images. If what you find there is of help to you then I would love to hear about it. And of course if you have suggestions for other material I should include, just pass along the word to: myenglishimages@gmail.com
