I hear a lot of newer teachers saying how they “don’t teach grammar,” in their classes. As if teaching it were somehow wrong. There is this general fear or dislike of anything seen as technical in language learning. Grammar is like a pattern upon which we hang our ideas. Teaching grammar for me is all about pattern recognition. If students can see the patterns, they can adapt them to fit various situations.
